"Black Clouds A Comin!" Learning About the Dust Bowl of the 1930's and the Southwest Region

Over working the soil and record years of drought brought on a decade of dust, heat and wind. Along with Mrs. Marino in the LRC, Ms. Harberts, Mrs. Klay, and Mr. Saxsma's fourth grade classes are learning about the regions of the United States.  Through research and reports they are discovering more about America's troubled times and tenacity of spirit to move on ahead and follow the American dream.
Above we see the world famous photograph by WPA photographer Dorothea Lang of a destitute mother and her hungry children of the Dust Bowl era. Below a photograph of a farmer and his sons returning home from the "fields".
